First thing about Beijing is heat.
That kind of heatt I felt before only in D.F.: humid and damp, sticky, smelly with different flavours to the point of being flavourless, sweaty and sweety.
The heat I love. The heat coming from any city whose population surpass 20 million souls.
A sort of South b/heat.
Now, I am a south guy to the bone and I love heat. I always said my ideal warm climate is when you can be laying on a bed, still, motionless and yet you sweat.
Just a few degree below that, and I put on a jumper.

So here I am, in Beijing. To get used to the city is a flash. Just the time to leave the luggage in the hostel, have a vitis to the toilet after two days of train and find the first chinese kebab on the street.
Love at first sight. Actually at first bite.

So in Beijing I did the following: had a sheep’s heart kebab, had dinner with pork’s intestine, spent the night in a absintha bar drinking coca cola till the 4 of the morning, had a chicken’s heart kebab, have dinner, had a sheep’s liver kebab, had dinner with silkworms (a sweet honey-flavoured dusty taste), spent the night in a chinese teenager disco till 4.30 in the morning, took a taxi that let me to the wrong side of tienamen square(of course), had breakfast with beer kindly offered by a sardinian “geometra”, ate snake (meat and skin, not so crispy, maybe it will be better in Vietnam), had the famous Beijing Roasted Duck, had a Screwdriver cocktail listening Guantamanera with pictures of Che on the walls while French teenager were gulping beers by the liters.

Of course I also see the sights.
Tienamen: done
Mao’s mausoleum: from the outside
Park near Forbidden City: done
Forbidden City: done
Great Wall: climbed; I would have liked to sleep there one night, but had no time to arrange things (read: find the path where Wall guards do not check)
Summer Palace: missed this time
cheap fake shops: done (a it-would-like-to-be The North Face backpack 13 Euro and a it-could-be The North Face tech trousers 12 euro, to make the pair with my North Fake ski jacket I bought in Mongolia)

Beijing does still merit more time so I will come back here after Xi’an.
